Her Reverie!

-II-

So, what's your story?

Unexpected. Never before she was asked such a question.

Did she have her story? Were her uncanny aspirations, her humble or the bashful self, all that defined her? Well, she was pretentious or sometimes atrocious too. Did it mean she was not typical? And at some point of time, she was unbelievably vulnerable.

Girl, you are more strong than you think, Jane said.

Slightly amused, Maya just smiled. Jane's such random comments, always caught her off guard, nevertheless made her comfortable. It was always a mystery how they could read each other's mind.

Totally excited and at-home she felt with these words. Just the idea that someone does wants to know about her was enough to make her elated! Completely overwhelmed, she stood there tongue tied, much to the surprise of Jane.

After a while Maya talked!

There were always those questions of how, why, when and she was so used to dodge them all. Then there were those adjustments and those minute differences that she chose to let go. Wasn't easy to survive; patience was thoroughly tested.

Surrounded by those questions of which she couldn't find the answers to, she made a point to find meaning of the circumstances, more entangled it would get. The more meaning she sought for, more meaningless it would get.

At times she was clueless of the ties that made her think about every other step that she took. They were enough to hold her back and eventually made her to visit those dark places again and again, to find clues, yet always ended up with no meaning whatsoever of the situations that she was put in. The more she pondered over a particular hint, a newer crossroad she would come across. That made her restless. Helpless! That crazy wandering self was always eager to bounce back at the most unexpected times. How she wish, the situations weren't always so complex! At times she wondered, if expecting a simpler life was too much to ask for!

At the first glance it all seems like a feature of a perfect comic book or about any other writer's favorite story.

For her, it was her way of life. Her perspective. Maybe, she was over-thinking, stretching all the ideas and fantasies too far. The vacillation between the thoughts and the reality made her furious and outrageous at times. And if the changing temperament of the people wasn't enough, it made her all messed up. Crazy! Hypocrisy, selfish morals, whining, idiocy, she have had enough!

The book reading club was her solace where she found her peace. A moment of liberation, a moment of togetherness and like-mindedness were more than enough to keep her abreast. The similar jubilant prose, stupid jokes and the profound thoughts made her and Jane linger nearby even after the sessions ended. Firstly, their talks revolved around the characters or the stories they read, gradually covering almost every other aspect. Eventually, all the coffee rushed discussions made their books alive and after that there was no looking back!

It was always so effortless for Maya to talk out loud with Jane. Call it understanding or telepathy, Maya was an open book in front of her. Overcoming her timid self, she narrated her complete story - Just Like That.
